Warsaw Univerity's Courtyard
"The design draws attention with the expressive form of the gate connecting the two levels of the courtyard and the expressive use of an openwork brick wall. Moving the ramp for cars allows full integration of the building with the upper and lower level of the courtyard. This integration is the greatest value of the project."

The idea

The keynote accompanying the design of the multi-functional facility for the University of Warsaw in the upper courtyard was the creation of a place, a space for the exchange of thoughts. An open home for both employees and random students. The open nature of the common spaces is to encourage people to enter the building, work in a friendly atmosphere, or take a shortcut through the open auditorium connecting the upper courtyard with the arcade along the auditorium.
The building is to serve as a place to introduce guests and foreign students to the university. Despite the location on the edge of the campus, it is to be a characteristic place on the map and also be easy to find.
The ground floor of the building will act as an extension of the courtyard. Its availability, informal nature and at the same time the need to fulfill the function related to concentration and work affect the perception of the building in the University space. The open auditorium, which is the heart of the building, will connect the spaces of both floors and squares on both sides. The stairs connecting the two levels will allow free passage through the building and will allow blurring the boundaries between the inside and the outside.
Sustainability

The best method in designing sustainable buildings is to design them so that their users like them and are able to use them properly. This approach is the best guarantee that the people working and staying in it will take care of it and respect its space. The use of durable, possibly local materials that give a valuable and tailor-made building should result in many years of efficient use. Such a building can be a model not only in terms of aesthetics and space, but an example of good use by customers. Caring for the high standard of the building we are designing, we have tried to design its partitions in accordance with the latest energy-saving requirements. Based on energy studies we have obtained the best results giving the opportunity to meet the recommendations of the Employer. Thanks to this, the building we design will function and serve subsequent generations of students and employees of the University of Warsaw.
